Bukhansanseong Fortress was first built in the 5th year of King Gaeru (132) as a northern fortress to protect Hanam Wiryeseong, the capital of Baekje, and subsequently served as a battleground for territorial disputes among the Three Kingdoms and resistance against the Mongol invasions. During the Joseon Dynasty, large-scale construction work was carried out following foreign invasions such as the Imjin War and the Manchu Invasion, giving the fortress its current appearance.

Haengjusanseong Fortress is a battleground where General Kwon Yul achieved a great victory in the 26th year of King Seonjo's reign (1593), specifically the site of the Battle of Haengju, one of the three major battles of the Imjin War. Currently, the fortress contains a restored 415-meter earthen wall and the Monument to the Battle of Haengju, erected in 1603. In 1970, extensive restoration work led to the construction of Chungjangsa Shrine, a shrine dedicated to General Kwon Yul, establishing the site's current appearance.

Haengjusanseong Historical Park was a section blocked by military barbed wire fences prior to 2008. When Goyang City developed it into a historical park in 2012, the beautiful nature of the Han River was returned to the citizens, and it is now a beloved resting place that serves as a space for a relaxed life for the public.
