The Goyang International Expo Foundation (Chairman Min Kyung-sun) announced that it has successfully concluded the recruitment of participants for the "2026 Goyang Flower City Citizen Flowerbed Creation Project" amidst high public interest and will proceed with the project in earnest.

The foundation annually promotes a participatory project in which citizens directly plant and tend to flowers, creating floral landscapes throughout their living areas and expanding the value of 'Goyang, the City of Flowers.' This year, approximately 200 citizens from 17 organizations, including administrative welfare centers, resident associations, village communities, and apartment management offices, are participating.

Participating organizations will be provided with a total of 50 kg of yellow cosmos and zinnia seeds, along with guidance materials to assist with everything from sowing to growth management. Citizens are scheduled to prepare the target sites and sow the seeds by early next month, and the foundation plans to support stable blooming through subsequent on-site inspections and growth management.

The flower gardens created by citizens are expected to begin blooming sequentially starting this September, reaching their peak in early October when the 2026 Goyang Autumn Flower Festival is held, presenting an abundant autumn flower landscape throughout the city.

Lee Chang-hyun, CEO of the Goyang International Expo Foundation, stated, "This project is meaningful in the process itself, where citizens directly sow and cultivate flower seeds to fill vacant spaces in their neighborhoods with flowers." He added, "We will actively support the project by managing the entire process from sowing to blooming together with participating organizations, so that beautiful flower gardens can be enjoyed throughout Goyang this autumn."

The Goyang International Expo Foundation announced that it is recruiting participating organizations until July 15 for the '2026 Goyang Flower City Citizen Flowerbed Creation Project,' in which citizens directly plant and tend to flowers to create beautiful autumn flower landscapes throughout Goyang Special City.

This project is a citizen-participatory floral culture expansion initiative in which the foundation provides flower seeds and civic groups directly sow and manage flowers on vacant land within the district. Selected groups will be provided with two types of autumn flower seeds (yellow cosmos or zinnia). Participating groups will utilize the provided seeds to plant flowers in local vacant spaces and maintain them continuously, with plans to showcase beautiful floral landscapes throughout the city in the autumn.

In particular, this project is linked to the 2026 Goyang Autumn Flower Festival, which will be held at Ilsan Lake Park from October 1 to 11. As flowerbeds created by citizens spread throughout the city, it is expected to enrich the autumn atmosphere and create an urban environment where people can enjoy flowers in their daily lives.

The applicant must be a Goyang City civic group occupying or owning a vacant space of 100㎡ or more, and must be a group composed of several members capable of continuously managing the space applied for.

Lee Chang-hyun, CEO of the Goyang International Expo Foundation, said, "Every single seed we sow will bloom into a beautiful flower, coloring every corner of the city and serving as a valuable foundation for building Goyang Special City, the city of flowers together." He added, "I hope that through the participation of many organizations, flower culture in daily life will spread further and the entire city will be filled with beautiful autumn flowers."

Detailed recruitment information and application methods can be found in the announcements section of the Goyang International Expo Foundation website (gief.or.kr).

The Goyang International Expo Foundation (CEO Lee Chang-hyun) announced that the 2026 Goyang International Flower Expo achieved its best performance since COVID-19, recording a distinct growth trend across major indicators such as the number of paid visitors, local flower sales, industrial business, experiential content, and public transportation traffic.

Successful Transformation into an “Expo to Stay and Participate” with 34 Visitors

Approximately 34 paying visitors attended this year's flower expo, marking a 6.3% growth compared to the previous year. The Foundation analyzed that the increase in visitors and the revitalization of the site were driven by a shift away from traditional flower exhibition-centered operations to a transition from a "flower expo to be viewed" to an "exhibition to stay and participate in," achieved by expanding stay-type and participatory content. In particular, various contents such as "Pengsoo's Flower Play Garden" and "Nostalgic Alley Garden" were found to have had a positive impact on increasing the influx of family visitors and the MZ generation.

Flower store sales more than double... Expanding regional win-win achievements

Significant achievements were also seen in the fields of regional co-prosperity and flower sales. The flower sales area expanded both visitor flow and on-site consumption simultaneously by implementing an open, two-way circulation system that allows visitors to naturally access the store from any direction and strengthening content linked to local flower farms. As a result, total sales increased by 101%—more than double—compared to the previous year, contributing to an increase in the actual income of local farmers.

Business consultations also more than doubled… Strengthening the floriculture industry platform function

Growth in the industry and business sectors was also notable. The number of business consultations increased by 107.1% from 70 last year to 145 this year, and the consultation value also rose by 48.2% year-on-year, leading to an assessment that the foundation has strengthened its function as a leading domestic flower business platform. The foundation explained that it has reinforced its role as a platform that generates both industrial exchange and tangible business results by inviting overseas buyers and expanding exchanges among domestic and international flower industry stakeholders.

Expansion of multi-sensory experiential content… Revenue increases by 68.9%

The performance of experiential content operations was also notable. Moving away from traditional viewing-centered exhibitions, the Foundation expanded multi-sensory experiential content, simultaneously improving the quality of the viewing experience and stimulating on-site consumption. As a result, total revenue from experiential content increased by 68.9% compared to the previous year. This indicates an expansion of consumption patterns in which visitors directly spend on experiential, educational, and participatory content, and is considered an indicator demonstrating the potential for future expansion of paid experiential and revenue-generating content.

Increase in public transportation ridership… Confirmation of urban revitalization and eco-friendly low-carbon effects

The urban revitalization effect was also confirmed in terms of traffic and inflow. Subway ridership during the event period increased by approximately 6.3% compared to the previous year, and it was found that there was a concentrated influx of visitors from outside during the expo. The foundation explained that through this, they were able to confirm not only the revitalization of Ilsan Lake Park and nearby commercial areas, but also the promotion of public transportation use and the effectiveness of operating an eco-friendly, low-carbon event.

Differentiating the “Goyang-style Floriculture and MICE Convergence Model”

Furthermore, this year's flower expo is evaluated as having distinguished itself as a 'Goyang-style floriculture and MICE convergence model' by generating complex economic effects—including not only visitor influx but also on-site consumption, industry consultations, content revenue, and the revitalization of public transportation—compared to major domestic flower and garden festivals.

Lee Chang-hyun, CEO of the Goyang International Expo Foundation, stated, “We anticipate that the 2026 Goyang International Flower Expo will generate an economic impact of approximately 1,280 billion won.” He added, “In addition to the performance analysis research currently being conducted by external professional organizations, we are also conducting an internal performance analysis. By comprehensively analyzing these results, we will strive to further strengthen global competitiveness and enhance the operation of the expo in the future.”

- Establishing a foundation for collaboration among resident companies and intensifying business linkages

The Goyang International Expo Foundation (CEO Lee Chang-hyun) announced that it held the '2026 Goyang City MICE Incubation Center Town Hall Meeting' on May 8 for tenant companies of the Goyang City MICE Incubation Center to strengthen networking and create business opportunities.

This town hall meeting was planned to go beyond simple networking among tenant companies and to provide an opportunity for business expansion by concretizing collaboration at the 'Business Workshop' scheduled to be held on June 18.

The event was attended by 14 executives and employees from 12 of the 28 tenant companies at the Goyang City MICE Incubation Center. Programs included one-minute business pitches by each company, a tenants' gathering, and preliminary exploration of potential collaborations. Participants introduced their respective business fields and engaged in open communication by freely sharing opinions. Subsequently, they generated collaboration ideas to facilitate in-depth discussions at the upcoming business workshop in June, laying the groundwork for concrete future discussions.

The Foundation assesses that the town hall meeting served as an opportunity to foster communication among resident companies while simultaneously strengthening collaboration-oriented business linkages. Furthermore, this program holds great significance in that it goes beyond simple internal collaboration to form a cooperative network centered around the Incubation Center, involving Alliance member companies and integrated facilities within the complex district; it is expected to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of Goyang City's MICE industry ecosystem.

Lee Chang-hyun, CEO of the Goyang International Expo Foundation, stated, “This town hall meeting serves as an opportunity to discover practical business opportunities for companies residing in the incubation center,” adding, “We will continue to provide support to ensure that tangible results are generated throughout Goyang City’s MICE industry ecosystem.”

The International Horticulture Goyang Korea 2026 will present performances and experiential content on Parents' Day, May 8, allowing visitors to share memories with their parents. Programs themed around flowers, memories, and intergenerational empathy have been prepared, and a steady stream of family visitors is expected.

Colorful spring flowers are in full bloom throughout the exhibition grounds, offering a wealth of sights to see. Spring flowers, including tulips and roses, fill Ilsan Lake Park, allowing visitors to enjoy the spring atmosphere and take photos along the flower paths.

In particular, the 'Garden of Memories' is garnering attention as a representative space where generations can share memories and nostalgia. With alley scenery, stationery shops, and nostalgic play areas created to capture the sensibilities of the 1970s and 80s, it evokes childhood memories for the older generation and offers the fun of a unique cultural experience for the younger generation, gaining popularity as a space where generations can empathize and communicate together.

In addition, a 'balsam dyeing' experience is prepared, allowing families to share memories and affection like the balsam flowers that stain their fingertips red. It is an emotional experience that evokes childhood summer scenery, and is a program that parents and children can enjoy together.

In celebration of Parents' Day, performances will also take place at the waterside stage. The Senior Model Association fashion show and a performance by Goguryeo dancer Kim Hye-mi will further enhance the festive atmosphere. Additionally, family theater performances are prepared for audiences to enjoy together, offering a time for generations to come together.

At the flower market within the event venue, visitors can purchase not only carnations but also flowers and plants directly grown by Goyang City's flower farms at reasonable prices. High-quality flowers are sold, and the market operates as a space to introduce the charm of local floriculture to citizens.

Lee Chang-hyun, CEO of the Goyang International Expo Foundation, said, “In celebration of Parents’ Day, we have prepared a program that allows families to share memories while viewing flowers together and enjoy performances and hands-on activities,” adding, “I hope this will be a time to feel the preciousness of family through the flowers.”

The Goyang International Exhibition Foundation (Chairman Lee Dong-hwan) announced that it is operating commentary programs at the International Horticulture Goyang Korea 2026 to enhance understanding of flowers and floral art works and add depth to the viewing experience. In particular, on May 6th for one day only, both indoor and outdoor commentary programs will be offered, allowing for a story-based viewing experience where visitors can go beyond simply admiring the flowers with their eyes to listening to and understanding the stories.

The 'Flower Interpreter' program, which operates continuously throughout the expo, helps visitors easily and interestingly understand the types and characteristics of flowers and the meaning of the exhibition displays in the main outdoor exhibition spaces. Anyone can participate, and it is receiving a positive response from visitors as they can receive key information in a short amount of time.

Meanwhile, a separate guided tour program will be held in the indoor exhibition hall for one day on May 6. A special docent tour focusing on the global floral artist exhibition 'Floral Odyssey' is scheduled to operate starting at 11:00 AM. This tour is a program that allows visitors to view the works of five artists from five countries participating in the exhibition with commentary, providing an opportunity to understand the stories and expressive techniques embedded in the artworks in greater depth.

Through this, visitors are expected to have a deeper viewing experience, moving beyond simply looking at the flowers and artworks to understanding the meaning embedded in the exhibition as a whole and the intentions behind the works.

The Goyang International Expo Foundation (Chairman Lee Dong-hwan) introduced a customized course for children to enjoy the '2026 Goyang International Flower Expo' more fully in celebration of Children's Day on May 5.

First, 'Minecraft Adventure Village,' the most popular experience content for children, is a must-visit course where a morning visit is recommended, as it attracts large crowds from early in the morning. Visitors can enjoy a unique immersive experience by exploring and completing missions within a digital environment themed around flowers and nature.

Afterwards, do not miss the free experience zones set up throughout the outdoor areas of the venue. At the 'Flower Therapy Garden,' sensory experiences utilizing flowers, such as drawing detailed illustrations and making pressed flower postcards, are offered. In the Garden Culture Experience Space, various free programs are conducted, including making seed packets and smudge stick keychains. This is an opportunity for children to participate directly and feel flowers and nature up close.

Above all, the greatest charm of the Flower Expo is the approximately 1,000 million flowers of about 1 different species that fill the entire indoor and outdoor areas. The spring flowers in full bloom outdoors are by far the most spectacular and abundant sight, while the indoor exhibition spaces also allow visitors to admire a diverse array of flowers from around the world all in one place. Children can spend time learning about flowers and getting closer to nature, while also creating memories and taking photos amidst the blossoms, making for a meaningful experience.

Various performances and participatory programs will take place at the waterside stage. In particular, the 'Children's Singing Contest' held at 1 PM is highly anticipated as an opportunity for children to take the stage, showcase their talents, and create special memories.

Additionally, the '8th Korea Children's Flower Arrangement Contest' is being held indoors, allowing visitors to observe children up close as they complete their own unique works using flowers. It offers a more meaningful experience by going beyond simply appreciating flowers to the process of creating and expressing oneself.

With a single ticket allowing you to enjoy everything from flower viewing to hands-on activities, performances, and participatory programs all in one place, it is garnering attention as a Children's Day outing course so rich that even a full day isn't enough.

Lee Chang-hyun, CEO of the Goyang International Expo Foundation, said, “I hope that children, the future generation, can experience and enjoy flowers and nature up close,” adding, “I hope you spend a special day at the Flower Expo where the whole family can laugh and have fun together.”
